Ice Water Hash (Bubble Hash)

Agitating frozen cannabis in ice water makes the trichome heads brittle and snaps them off. Micron-graded mesh bags catch the resin in size-sorted layers.

The wash

Place fresh-frozen or cured flower in a bag inside a bucket lined with stacked screens (typically 220μ, 160μ, 120μ, 90μ, 73μ, 45μ, 25μ). Add ice and cold water (≤4°C). Agitate gently for 10–20 minutes with a paddle or washing machine. Trichomes break off and sink through the screens.

The collection

Lift each bag in sequence. The 73–90μ fractions are usually the cleanest, full-melt grade — pure trichome heads. Larger micron fractions catch contaminants and broken heads; smaller fractions catch immature glands.

Freeze-drying

Wet hash must be dried fast and cold or it goes mouldy and loses terpenes. A freeze-dryer (lyophiliser) sublimes the water out at −40°C in 24–48 hours, locking in volatile aromatics. Air-drying works but you lose flavour and risk decarboxylation.

Grading

Connoisseur hash is graded 1★–6★. 6★ is full-melt — leaves no residue when dabbed. 1–3★ is pressing-grade, suitable for hash rosin or hot-knifing.
